Thank you, Chair. And I stand to move motions 50, 54, new clause 44, and new clause 45, which are in my name, Chair. And what I was saying before the lunch break was essentially that clause 7 essentially says what the Secretary of State's job is, and it moves the functions of planning workforce from NHS England to the Secretary of State, which is a reasonable thing to do. And I talked about the previous government's record and opening new medical schools and how that has helped the number of clinical staff. We also talked about the workforce planning.
The government is due to produce a workforce plan, Chair, but it's not clear when it's due to come out. It was due to come out in the end of last year, and it didn't. It was due to come out in the spring. Now it's the summer, with the Prime Minister resigning, it's not clear when it will come out at all. But I did ask the Minister if she'd let us know whether it's going to come out before the summer recess or this week or whenever.
And quoted some of the concerns of the Royal College of Nursing and the British Medical Association, which I'm a member of, and others who have expressed concerns about the workforce plan that they've seen that we haven't seen, Sir Roger. So they've been seeing what's been doing and been asked to comment on it, but we haven't. And that brings me on to new clause 44 in my name. Before the general election, Chair, Labour promised it would double the number of medical school places. The Chancellor, the right honourable member for Leeds West and Pudsey, promised to double the number of medical school training places.
